Zooming effects

Hitchcock introduced the world to the dolly zoom technique in Vertigo. Through the dollying out, zooming in technique, viewers can experience the protagonist's vertiginous feeling of staring down many flight of stars The sense of impending danger was amplified in Lord of the Rings using the same technique. The smartphone can apparently mimic the effect but of course, it wouldn't be studio quality.


We were advised not to use the iPhone's zooming function as the image would become pixelated. I attempted to zoom in on a Kingfisher at Wessex Estate by walking in progressively closer. I think there is a sense of suspense as I close in and the kingfisher comes into focus, and the climax (or rather anticlimax!) is reached when the bird flies away:
